Main Story

On his way to Hashimara to collect material for a film story, Amitabha Roy’s taxi has a break-down in a small  inter- mediate town. He is offered hospitality for the night by Bimal Gupta, a local tea planter.

Arriving at Bimal’s house, Amitabha is shocked to recognise his host’s wife Karuna as the girl he once loved and had let down in a moment of crisis.

The next morning it is decided that Amitabha will take the train to Hashimara instead of waiting for the taxi to be repaired.
He scrawls a hasty note to Karuna I will wait for you at the station. If you still love me, come away, I won’t let you down this time.
Evening finds Amitabha waiting for Karuna at the station.
